Principal of Thorns Collegiate Academy
Manny Kelay is Principal of Thorns Collegiate Academy. With over 25 years of experience in education, he oversees all elements of running the school, ensuring it remains a fully inclusive and supportive environment for students, staff, and families.
Manny’s career in education began in 1996 as a teacher of mathematics, where he quickly progressed to become Head of Mathematics in his first year. He then moved on to various leadership roles at Shireland Collegiate Academy, starting as a senior teacher followed by Vice Principal, before joining The ACE Academy as Associate Principal in 2014. In 2017, he was appointed Principal of Thorns Collegiate Academy, where he continues to inspire and support his staff to provide a high-quality educational experience for all students.
Manny’s passion for education stems from his love of working with young people. He finds great satisfaction in helping students succeed in achieving qualifications and skills that allow them to access post-16 opportunities.
Manny holds a BEng (Hons) degree from Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London, and a PGCE from Leeds Metropolitan University. He also holds a National Professional Qualification for Headship, demonstrating his commitment to continuing professional development.
In addition to his work at Thorns Collegiate Academy, Manny enjoys spending time with his family, reading, watching football, cycling, eating out, and travelling. He is a keen Liverpool FC supporter and enjoys taking his daughters to watch Premier League football matches.
