Joining the Trust in 2017, Thorns Collegiate Academy in Brierley Hill embraces the unique blend of traditional education, cutting-edge technology and strong partnerships to create an innovative learning environment.
Although judged as inadequate by Ofsted following its inspection in February 2022, the Academy has since made significant progress, as noted in the excellent subsequent monitoring visit in November 2022. The Academy was commended for its swift, significant actions towards improving the quality of students’ education, addressing specific areas of weakness and increasing capacity to bring about change.
In 2022, Thorns Collegiate Academy saw its highest progress score in public examinations since joining Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, including the best results in the school’s history for its results in foundation subjects. Over 90% of students achieved their GCSEs in Maths and English, with a handful of students receiving the top BTEC grade of Distinction*. Performance scores at Progress 8 over the last five years have also meant that Thorns is one of the most improved schools in Dudley.
