Shireland Biomedical UTC

Based in West Bromwich, Shireland Biomedical UTC is an innovative addition to the Trust, having joined in 2022 as the UK’s first University Technical College (UTC) specialising in healthcare and health sciences. The Academy welcomed its first cohort of 120 year 7 students in September that same year, and has had a substantial investment in facilities to transform the school into a modern, high-quality learning environment.

The current Ofsted rating is requires improvement which was given under the previous sponsor. The school changed from 14-18 to 11-18 and a new Ofsted inspection is expected to reflect this new status and Shireland stewardship.

Students benefit from combining national curriculum teaching with work-based projects, which are delivered in partnership with professional organisations and employers. This opens up a broad range of future pathway opportunities that genuinely align and reflect students’ career interests, either going directly into employment, further study at university or higher and degree apprenticeships.

The school has demonstrated strong GCSE and A level results for year 11 and year 13, reflecting the potential for excellence in a unique learning environment.
