Wednesfield Technology Primary – Section 10 Consultation – FAQs

The consultation will be open until 5pm on Monday 1 November 2021.

Frequently Asked questions

As part of the process of opening a Free School, the Department for Education requires a consultation under Section 10 of the Academies Act 2010.

This takes the form of a questionnaire that is distributed among the local community. The consultation form allows individuals, groups, businesses and other interested parties to share their views so that we can provide the best facilities and opportunities for the area.

The consultation period for Wednesfield Technology Primary will run until 5pm on Monday 1 November 2021.

The results will be collated and will form a report to be sent to the Department for Education.

Free schools are schools that are funded by the government but are not run by the local authority. They have more control over how they do things.

They are ‘all-ability’ schools, so cannot use academic selection processes like a grammar school.

As a Technology Primary, our purpose is to empower pupils to achieve beyond expectations by providing the best technology-enabled opportunities.

We are supported by Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, which has been built upon the foundations laid by the twice Ofsted ‘outstanding’ founding school, Shireland Collegiate Academy. Being part of the Trust allows collaboration between staff and pupils from the different schools.

We use technology to achieve high levels of progress and academic success. We blend the traditional with the new by providing exciting and innovative curriculum and learning experiences, harnessing the use of technology and developing cutting-edge skills, but underpinned with academic rigour and high-quality teaching.

Wednesfield Technology Primary School will be located on the former site of Edward the Elder Primary School:

Lichfield Road,
Wednesfield,
Wolverhampton
WV11 1TN

The initial phase of the build will be completed by September 2022 ready for our first cohort of Reception pupils to start at the school.

For the 2022-23 academic year, while the main phase of the building work is on going, we will have units on the school site where classrooms, dining hall and sports facilities will be located.

From September 2023 pupils will be able to take advantage of learning our brand new school building with all of the exciting facilities and technology that we will have in it.

The school will help to meet the need for additional primary school places in the Wednesfield area.

As a Technology Primary, our purpose is to empower pupils to achieve beyond expectations by providing the best technology-enabled opportunities.

We believe that every pupil should be equipped for the future through teaching relevant skills for the world in which they live. In the 21st Century world, technology is utilised across multiple platforms and sectors; we believe that these 21st Century skills are often neglected at a primary level.

We want to give local children the opportunity to start to develop these skills, which will benefit them as they go on to further education and then ultimately the highly competitive working world.

We will be able to share provisional plans for the school as we move through the build and development process.

Please check back on this website and our social media for up to date information.

You can apply for your child to start in Reception at Wednesfield Technology Primary through your local authority in the usual way.

We are an established multi-academy Trust with schools across the Black Country area of the West Midlands.

Shireland Collegiate Academy is the founding school of Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust. This Academy has a national reputation for innovation, collaboration and inspiring individuals within our care, we aim to maintain this reputation throughout our Trust.

We believe in “earned autonomy” for our Academies.  With the stronger Academies with a track record of improvement supporting and sharing good practice in our weaker academies to ensure all our academies within our family are at least Good and have a clear process for improving educational outcomes.

We believe that every person who passes through our doors deserves the very best that we can offer. We understand that each Academy is unique, but our emphasis and expectations will remain the same. Nothing less than Outstanding is acceptable.

We want every single person that comes through the doors of one of our academies to leave having grown as an individual, in terms of their skill set and their respect for others.  We hope that everyone will have participated in a “Whole Education” that prepares them both personally and professionally and that they are well-placed for a successful and happy life.

Everyone who works with and for the Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust does so because they believe in children and want their futures to be happy and successful.

We will have regular updates on this website as well as our social media:
